Unlawful Search and Seizure?

Feds Raid Reporter's House Seeking "Weapon," Seize Confidential Notes

“Paging Civil Liberties … are Civil Liberties anywhere to be found?”

File this one under, “Feds Overstepping Boundaries.”

According to this report, a Colorado Observer reporter had confidential notes seized in a pre-dawn raid by the feds seeking a potato launcher.

Yes folks, you read that right. The warrant was seeking a novelty item that shoots potatoes.

So, why was this reporter targeted? Well, you see, she had the audacity to write a series of articles for the Washington Times on the topic of U.S. Air Marshals lying to Congress about the number of flights they have to guard.

The nerve…

Now, here’s my issue with this situation. Under the law, when serving a warrant the authorities must state specifically what they are searching for and, unless contraband is in plain view, they are prohibited from conducting search expeditions. In other words, there is a huge difference between a potato launcher and a reporter’s FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) files.

What is alarming is that the reporter was asked if she was the one who wrote the scathing reports about the U.S. Air Marshal’s lying to Congress before the search began, and she never knew the files had been seized until after the fact.

Is this a direct result of government gone wild, or a direct attempt at intimidation?

I think it’s a little of both.

Thankfully, the Washington Times is taking up this cause, which will wind up in court. However, as we now know, the Obama administration has a distinct habit of not holding people accountable when situations like this arise. (One of the funniest commentaries was this parody from Saturday Night Live—it’s a hoot, or funny, as you wish.)

Now, the reality of this issue is an out-of-control government is running amok because, quite frankly, who can you call to complain? You are already at the top of the department totem pole—the only way to go from there is down. (Notice how I only used “department” and left “justice” out of the title? That’s because there is no justice here.) The “lamestream” media won’t cover this story because it’s not part of the liberal agenda, where anything goes to maintain the President’s socialist power grab.

Our government answers to no one right now. The IRS, CIA, and NSA are all deaf, dumb, and blind when it comes to accountability.

Kind of reminds you of home, doesn’t it?

Lastly, I find this song a fitting end to this blog. I don’t see the rain, but I see the taxes pouring down.
